Please join the Aspen Institute Business & Society Program and Fordham CSR Program, Leitner Center for International Law and Justice, Fordham Law School for a special conversation with award-winning journalist Rick Wartzman and renowned filmmaker Abigail Disney on what two of America’s most iconic companies can teach us about solving America’s low-wage crisis. Their latest works, Still Broke: Walmart’s Remarkable Transformation and the Limits of Socially Conscious Capitalism and the film The American Dream and Other Fairytales, challenge deeply held assumptions about two companies that play an outsized role in American life. The companies, operating in vastly different industries, provide unique windows into America’s economy and culture. Wartzman and Disney will pull back the curtain on America’s dependence on low-wage workers to do everything from put food on our tables to inspire our children to dream.

This discussion will probe the human cost of low wages in America, address the promise and limitations of enlightened business leadership, and explore the role of public policy and the law in restoring a sustainable social contract between corporations and society.
