Brown Bag Lunch Series
As of September 8, 2012, when a ninth prisoner perished, 167 Muslim men remain at Guantanamo in indefinite detention. Amnesty International has aptly called Guantanamo, which is now in its second decade of operation, the “Gulag of our times.” Our speaker, Omar Farah, will discuss the situation of Guantanamo prisoners and ongoing efforts to finally shutter the island internment camp.
Omar A. Farah is a staff attorney at the Center for Constitutional Rights in the Guantanamo Global Justice Initiative, representing Guantanamo prisoners in habeas corpus challenges and in resettlement and post-release reintegration efforts. He is counsel in Ameziane v. United States, the first ever case to be heard by the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights regarding a Guantanamo detainee. Omar also focuses on a range of CCR’s other litigation and advocacy efforts in response to abusive counter-terrorism practices. He is a graduate of Columbia University and Georgetown University Law Center.
Attendance at this event counts towards the 10 required Leitner events to apply for summer funding.
Pizza will be served.
