Speaker: Mark Doss, Supervising Attorney at International Refugee Assistance Project
The Leitner Center was pleased to have Mark Doss speak as part of the Leitner Human Rights Speaker Series. Mr. Doss discussed challenges to protecting refugee rights in the current political climate, and reflected on IRAP’s work responding to the rollback of refugee protections. He engaged students on how legal advocacy and litigation can be used to promote refugees’ rights in the context of executive overreach.
Mark Doss is a supervising attorney in IRAP’s New York office and manages the IRAP Jordan field office. As a member of the IRAP Legal team, Mark represents refugees and Special Immigrant Visa applicants before the UN and the US Government and trains and advises hundreds of law students and lawyers on pro bono refugee cases. He also assists with IRAP’s litigation docket, including IRAP v. Trump, Darweesh v. Trump, and 9 Iraqi Allies v. Kerry. He is currently an Adjunct Professor for CUNY School of Law’s Immigrant and Non-Citizen Rights’ Clinic.
Mark graduated magna cum laude from Brown University with a B.S. in Applied Mathematics-Economics and a B.A. in Africana Studies. He graduated cum laude from Georgetown Law and was also awarded a Certificate in Refugee and Humanitarian Emergencies. Mark was a staff member of The Georgetown Law Journal and an Executive Editor of the Annual Review of Criminal Procedure. After law school, he clerked for the Honorable James G. Carr in the Northern District of Ohio. He then completed an Equal Justice Works Fellowship at IRAP.
