New York City Bar: Report of the Mission to China
In December 2009, Asia Law and Justice Center staff, in conjunction with the U.S. Asia Law Institute at NYU, helped facilitate a fact-finding and outreach mission of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York to China.

Ambassador John Huntsman greeted the mission at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing and solicited its opinions on relevant legal issues. The visiting delegation also visited the Beijing and Shanghai Lawyers Associations to better understand the regulation and role of attorneys in China, and to lay the groundwork for future cooperation and exchanges. At smaller meetings with prominent and grassroots “rights attorneys” , the delegates learned more about the difficulties in undertaking such sensitive cases.

The Bar Association has recently released its full report on the Mission, detailing their experience and impressions. The report is available here.
