The criminalization of homosexual acts in Bangladesh and the rise of anti-secular fundamentalism pose threats to LGBT individuals, who face discrimination, tremendous stigma, and targeted violence. Faisal Abdullah, a legal advocate for the rights of sexual minorities including LGBT people, will draw on his experiences as a human rights advocate in Bangladesh to elaborate on the stigma, discrimination and the violence faced by the country’s LGBT community. Mr. Abudullah will discuss the recent targeted killing of the editor of ‘Roopban,’ Bangladesh’s first LGBT rights based magazine, and he will explain the socio-political and religious dynamics that shape the experiences of homosexual individuals in the country.
Kosher pizza will be served.
