Arvind Ganesan will discuss the current state of business and human rights around the world and will describe some of today's challenges with the extractive industries and the internet. He will also discuss the prospects for new rules to ensure business respect human rights. We hope that this will be an informative and interactive discussion on the issue of business and human rights.
Arvind Ganesan founded the Business and Human Rights program at Human Rights Watch and has been its director since 2001. He oversees the organization's research, advocacy, and policy on business and human rights. The main areas of work for the program currently are the extractive industries, the internet, corruption, economic interests of militaries, labor rights, trade, and international standard setting for companies and business. Ganesan and his staff regularly conduct research into human rights violations related to business, conduct advocacy with some of the world's largest companies, governments, and international institutions such as the IMF, World Bank, and UN to ensure that companies and business respect human rights.
Food will be served: pita sandwiches, hummus, and veggie sticks.
Co-sponsored by the Leitner Center for International Law and Justice, the International Law Journal, and Amnesty International.
