SUMMERY

This course examines the international and semi-international institutions established to prosecute genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity, including the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, the International Criminal Court, the Sierra Leone Special Court, and their predecessors – the International Military Tribunal at Nuremberg and the International Military Tribunal for the Far East (Tokyo).

We will also examine the prospects of justice for serious crimes committed in Iraq, Darfur and Cambodia. The course additionally examines some of the substantive case law of the Yugoslav and Rwanda tribunals, particularly, the elements of the crimes of genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity, and individual and command responsibility.
