Donate to two Leitner Center initiatives for international law and justice!

The Leitner Alumni Group needs your donations to support innovative projects to promote law and justice in Ghana and Nepal.  The Leitner Alumni Group are Fordham Law School graduates who were fortunate enough to take part in coursework, clinics and internships abroad that have forever changed the way they see the world.  We would like to continue the mission of the Leitner Center as we begin our careers, using what we learned at the Leitner Center to continue advocating on behalf of international human rights.  We are putting our personal and professional networks to work on behalf of human rights projects worldwide, and we need your help.

We have two fundraising initiatives to begin with:

1) $5,000 for the Annual Human Rights Alumni Prize, given each year to an activist that the Crowley Program worked with on the most recent annual human rights mission. The most recent human rights mission was to Nepal to investigate the impact that inadequate access to land has on human rights, including the rights to housing, food, water, and political participation, in a country emerging from ten years of conflict. This year’s award will go to an NGO in Nepal. The money that we raise will enable the Center to bring the award recipients to New York, provide them with a small honorarium to support their work, and honor them at the Leitner Center’s Annual Dinner.

2) $10,000 to purchase computers for legal aid organizations and lower courts in Ghana.  This project was born when the Chief Justice of Ghana, Her Ladyship Mrs. Georgina Theodora Wood, visited Fordham Law School in the Spring of 2008.  She mentioned that technology in Ghana is outdated and in limited supply.  As new computers become more and more affordable, a group of fellow alumni thought we could help supply computers to Ghanaian law students and legal professionals.  Our goal is to purchase around 20 computers for Ghana.  Jim Leitner has very graciously agreed to match up to $5,000 in donations.

To donate please send a check made payable to Fordham Law School to:  Prof. Paolo Galizzi, Leitner Center for International Law and Justice, Fordham University School of Law, 33 West 60th Street, New York, NY, 10023.  All donations are 100% tax deductible so be sure to include your full name and address if you would like a receipt.  Please feel free to contact us at leitneralumni@law.fordham.edu if you have any questions about these projects or would like to get involved in the Leitner Alumni Group.
